Eh, but you still have to find the stuff and set it up. In XPSP2 all security related settings are in one place, its nice. And the OS keeps annoying the hell out of you if you dont turn the firewall on.....
OOH, and even better....this one I like:
XP SP2, with firewall enabled, will tell you when a application is attempting to make a network connection, ask for authorization (allow once, allow always, or never), and adjust your firewall settings. If you are playing a game, no more swearing, the OS tells you whats wrong and asks if you trust the application. Good for the clueless people (or, good for those damn games that dont document their TCP/UDP ports)
I just find that the Windows Firewall gets in the way. Incredibly irritating after a while...

Did I miss something or did the top end mini model go from $799 to $599. Ok. it has a smaller drive and no superdrive. BUt who uses DVDs anymore?I do. That's how I archive all my HDTV and SDTV recordings. I burn Disk Images with Toast then rip those images to mp4 files with Handbrake to take what starts out as a 6GB HD master and winds up a 351MB mp4 file that looks almost as good as the original - just a little softer is all. So I can get 12 one hour prime time HDTV shows on one 4.38GB DVD or two on a 702.8MB CD.
For me this is the future of TV show recording and storage. I've got it down to a science that is as good as is possible with today's technology to get something that is very big to be very small and still deliver a decent viewing-listening experience on a HD Screen while remaining iPod compatible at the same time.
Only drawback is computing power. Even the 3GHz Mac Pro is too slow to do this in rapid time. So it takes a more time than the programs lengths to do right now that should in future take only a few minutes each. I'm hoping that amount of power will be with us by 2008 or 2009. It's a fundamental challenge that needs to get solved before what I am doing can have mass appeal. It's almost tlike a full itme job - no it is a full time job. Except I'm not getting paid to do it. :eek:

What are these "Macs" you speak of?
Long, long ago, when the animals could still talk and houses didn't have Windows, a round piece of fruit made a Mac, a revolutionary way to use computers ( /com-puu-ters/ ). They improved the system time and time again to the extend that we have nowadays.
Then came the evil Bill, known from the creation of fences and Gates, and he made something that looked like nothing but was in fact something. Namely, glass Windows. You could look through it, yet not go through it. It was symbolic to say "You can see your home, but there's no possible way to go there. Muahahaha!"
Unknown by many people, Macs at the other hand, you just could eat (since Mackintosh is a sort of Apples) through and go through. It would finish your hunger and you would be never hungry again.
And because of the amount of water in the Mac, you wouldn't be thirsty again either. Romans knew that already; they named it Aqua.
Nowadays, times are different. The Aqua is bit by bit drying up, and Apple thinks more about phones. But even if the Aqua will be gone soon, the Mac is still an Apple, and it will finish your thirst.
Apple knows that, and they think chocolate has a better taste. Therefore, they have Cocoa now. Much better than Aqua. And it fills directly to your stomach, underneath all things you see, so you don't even have to see that you're drinking. You can do other things while your stomach is filled with Cocoa.

That has changed. The Cummins, Powerstroke, and Duramax now have to meet the stringent emissions regulations. Why do you think they cost $8K now compared to the $3-4K before the new emission laws?
I thought anything with a GVWR of over 10k lbs was exempt from those standards. I know they are exempt from CAFE fuel economy standards.

the option to dock and iPod simply is so out of place that I do not know why it keeps getting brought up. iTV is focused on streaming content from your computer, not your iPod.I've been wondering about this. Assuming the iTV is just a streaming device which shows a movie stored on iTunes on your PC or Mac, it is probably reasonably simple for Apple to make the iTV also stream video from an iPod (including Nano or even Shuffle).
Of course, why not just plug your iPod directly into the TV? And if there's a movie on your iPod, it came via your iTunes anyway so you can stream from there right...?
I'm not sure what the answer to that is. I do think there's scope for buying a movie in a store, downloading to iPod, and uploading to your iTunes (assuming that you have a low bandwidth net connection).

I agree with almost everything you wrote (you're a pretty smart guy!) but offer two comments:
1 - We don't know there isn't a Jobs waiting in the wings. We also don't know there isn't a Jobs in the #2 spot at some Fortune 50 company who could be in a MS executive suite in 3 years.
2 - MS being "too proud" is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I write about not being able to predict the post-Bill future. He is certainly too proud but who knows about Bill 2.0?

I'm 32, still love driving, go to empty parking lots in winter to drift my Subaru around for fun (freaked out my girlfriend when I did it to her then brand new, sub-1000 km Kia Soul last January, which parking-brake drifted like a champ, even pulling a donut around another car, to much screaming and freaking out from the owner/passenger).
In the summer, I rip through country back roads for the kick of it, though nowadays, it's on my Harley rather than in my long lost loves (the 2.2L VTEC integra or the WRX) often leaving in the cold air of dawn to come back as dusk settles over the fields around my house.

Oh do not get my wrong I still enjoy driving but at the same time dealing with the every day grind of putting up with Dallas rush hour traffic was getting to me and making me consider going Auto.
Now that I am back with my parents working on another degree the traffic is not a big deal and I like having my manual. It is great for when I need passing power as I can drop my gear and get it when I want it.
Spec V is a fun car to drive. I am 28 btw.

I work with these machines on the daily. Their service manuals are three mouse clicks and the type of my password away. My co-worker has at least two of them bare naked chips and bits exposed and all at his bench on the daily. It's hard not to stare at them as I take my morning walk to the break room to grab a cup of water. I can speak definitively because I know what I'm talking about. My 24" iMac is still going strong... they'll something pretty major to get me to consider getting a new one.
Mine too, a wonderful machine...but I am definitely going for a new one if the upgrade is good enough. :rolleyes:
