Well I hope it doesn't come too soon. Blu-ray is just too expensive right now and it would jack up Mac cost significantly. It's also better to see how the Blu-ray vs HD DVD thing works out as well just to make sure Apple doesn't back a dead horse.

Do you think that there may be some REALLY BIG new technological/hardware gizmo being intro'd? Something that makes the movie store just a minor part of a larger picture.
I think the 5G iPod with "video capabilities"" was just a test to see how the public took it. And adding TV shows to the US store in iTunes may proved a success depending on the stats they have.
They've had time to seriously think and come up with a product(s) and interface(s) and they are fully aware of all theeir competition and what other products & interfaces exist too.
So in answer to your question, YES :-) I think this will be something revolutionary just as when the 1st iPod was announced.
I've got faith, although we will have to wait and see.

just a thought. I'd like to see at least one mini stay as cheap as possible. cheap minis are condusive to the "non desktop" or "inivisible" situations we all love them for.

Can you put them side by side and run some comparisons?
Since I'm home for the evening and didn't see your post until now, I can't give you any specific side-by-side tests, but I can give you a rough estimate of the speeds.
Overall, the Dual G5 is faster, not by a landslide by any means, but it is faster. Of course the G5 has 1.5 gigs of RAM vs. the mini's 512K, and the G5 has a 1Ghz BUS speed vs. the 667Mhz of the mini. If I were to slap in 2 gigs of RAM in to the mini then I'm sure I would see a little more performance, but I think the G5 would still be faster.
But the mini is still very zippy, no beachballs or waiting on Apps, very fast and clean for average use. Now if I were to do some Photoshop or, say, FCP comparisons, I'm sure the G5 would clean up in those areas.
I'm really happy with the purchase though, it's perfect for what I need it to do.

Is there an app in which the face of the iPod touch/iPhone has a digital scroll wheel on the bottom half and a screen on the top half to simulate the iPod Classic interface? Maybe that would be enough to satiate the holders on to the classic?

UK and Ireland stores are still up so now I'm beginning to think they'll announce a Mac Mini AirPort hybrid with DVR capabilities, a huge HD, and input-output and on-the-fly hardware decoding for every video feed you can think of and it'll retail at $50...
...but it'll only work in the US.

CNET Overlooked Running More Than One Copy Of The Same Application At Once. Were they to have launched two copies of Toast and started crushing video from EyeTV Recordings to high quality DVD images, they would have realize how to hose one of those 8-core systems easily.
I'm very confused about when Apple is going to offer 8-cores due to the need for the Stoakley platform chips to enhance an 8-core configuration's performance which won't be out until next Spring. :confused:

you know, if you use the console client, you can tell it how many cores to use - like smp 7 would only use 7, instead of 8. but i'm not sure if it would make the deadline with only 7. probably not with less than that though.
so with the 09's you can do other things while it's folding bigadv units and no problems?
I don't use my 09 MP for anything real intense but even having several apps going it doesn't take anything out of folding, I get the same times regardless.

Knowing that Apple doesn't pay listed prices, it's not unreasonable to assume that Apple could get the Yonah chips for less than Merom ones.
Also, Apple has historically liked to scale its product lineup to encourage buying then next item up the scale. Some have even referred to it as "crippling" the lower machines.Ahh crippling like using inferior Gpu's like in ProMac & Mini? Both GMA950 & 7300 are bottom tier.

It is the best handheld device I have ever used. I could go on about most every feature but here is maybe my favorite. I have used the phone now for 2 days straight(I work that long about 5 times a month) and I still haven't dropped below 20% battery. This feature alone makes it unreal when you think of everything it does.
No case for me.
Can definitely make my bars drop in weak signal areas.
Has never affected my use of the phone or anything else.
Definitely recommend.
Dropped my subscription to Consumer Reports.

I havent yet found a situation where the 1.66 Yonah in my mini is the problem. granted, I dont use photoshop and I have the full whack of 2GB RAM - my beef with the mini is when I boot into 'doze and wanna play games - that GMA950 just can't cut the mustard.
So what would make me rush out and buy a new mini (and put this one under the TV) would be a faster graphics processor.

The 6950m and 6970m are also available in 2gb models. That would help with the larger resolution of the 27" display. Let's hope for that as well!

A better question is: when does the LCD OR the computer die, especially in the case of Macs? I would say never...
Sorry to disappoint you but even Apple screens do die....My Apple LCD did about a month before Applecare expired. They lost it and I had to wait 7 weeks for a replacement. Mind u, it did die so beautifully...a few flickers and then there was peace :rolleyes:

Put in the cheapest Intel CPU that is up to date, so you can toss in any faster CPU. Or better let the customer decide. Basic version would have a cheap CPU, maybe even a Celeron. Onboard graphics (but PCIx slot!). Accept ordinary disc drives, maybe even deliver without. Minimum amount of RAM... as low as 256 MB? Do anything to keep prices low, but give the machine a good case, size something around Mac Pro, maybe a bit smaller. Midi Tower size. Can be white plastic for example, should be stylish. Important are only the casing and the board, so the user can upgrade. That would really be something for switchers... they could simply plug in their old hardware (please at least driver support for all ATI and nVidia cards, the most important sound cards (Creative and VIA Envy24* I guess)). ....as a continuation of Jobs last iTV performance. Apple will show how the connected world is going to look. You will have the Mac, the new iTV (probably a launch date will be provided), the new MacPhone, a new .Mac service that will be the key for phone content and syncing, and a new widescreen iPod (not sure about the touchscreen, but will be available immediately). And of course, a full Leopard preview that is the engine behind the full integration. It will become more about the concept this time. Much less about the devices as the Leopard launch will be the key of the platform. The iPod can be launched as it is not directly tied in, but the phone, Leopard and .Mac 5.0 are directly related. The 'top-secret' features? Push technolgy utilizing .Mac to the phone. And because the phone will sync two way with .Mac, your Mac will be kept updated on iCal, Address Book. And even iTunes will know what songs you wanted to purchase utilizing Gracenote's Music ID (the audio fingerprinting technology developed by Philips.)
Just my thoughts, but this is an area the will be able to become a major player in the market.

So long as iTV can reliably pull all of our media content from our PC/Mac, without it overloading iTunes/iPhoto, we'll be happy.
It may just be what's needed for us to finally replace our decaying 19inch TV for a widescreen 26inch LCD TV. :)
Since our DVD player's pretty knackered too, I was thinking it'd be nice to stick a DVD in my MacPro and have iTV stream it to the front room, one less box to worry about. Built-in DVR would be sweet, no more VHS machine, but it'd need a Canadian TV-Guide.

But on a lighter note, notice that Microsad's best attempt at a *modern* iPod-Killer is completely dead, but the good old iPod Classic is still chugging along and probably sold more in that last year than all models of Zune/Zune HD combined since its ill-fated introduction in 2006.

If you buy a truck or SUV because you want to tow or haul, drive offroad or use it for work, fine. If you bought it because you're being "protective", then, yes, that is a selfish motivation.
Larger SUV's and trucks often do suffer fewer driver fatalities, so in some ways they are safer (in the US), but that is because they force smaller vehicles to absorb most of the impact during a crash. Also, the rollover risk remains high, so that the "protection" you are buying is pretty conditional and may come at the expense of other people's lives.
If you want to debate it further I suggest we start another thread though, so we can keep this one on-topic.

You seem to be socialist that wants to control every aspect of other peoples lives.
